EICR is a report and not a certificate.
The purpose is to provide an assessment of the current in-service condition of an electrical installation against the requirements of the edition of BS 7671 current at the time of the inspection, irrespective of the age of the installation.
Every electrical installation deteriorates with use and age. It is important for the person responsible for the maintenance of the installation (such as the householder or landlord) to be sure that the safety of the user is not put at risk, and that the installation continues to be in a safe and serviceable condition….
